12/3/19 Portraiture Workshop with Charlotte Cripwell

Charlotte arrived complete with model and labrador!

She showed us how to set up the model with a single light source. We spent all day doing a study of his head in charcoal, under her guidance.
She then followed this with a demonstration of her portrait techniques.

12/2/19 Workshop with Sarah Wimperis

A welcome chance for those of us who missed Sarah's previous workshop to learn how to paint like Van Gogh.

Another really enjoyable successful day!

Constantine Christmas Lunch 4/12/18

Yet again a very good, delicious, full of Christmas cheer, fabulous lunch!

The Mollie Silver Trophy was a welcome new addition.
We brought along a painting and there was a secret ballot to select the winner.
Helen James was the winner with a very lovely portrait, and Mollie presented her trophy.
Workshop with Sarah Wimperis 6/11/18

Sarah was one of the many artists who were employed to create the animation for the feature film 'Van Gogh'

Sarah told us how the whole process of creating the animations for the film worked. An amazing experience.

She then went on to demonstrate a part of a painting in the Van Gogh style.

We all very successfully produced a very credible Van Gogh style artwork.

Follow-on Printmaking with Candia 30/10/18

Candia kindly brought her printmaking materials again.

We all carried on with our own projects, principally
lino-cutting and produced lots of artwork and cards.

AGM 2pm. 23/10/18

Very good turn out for for this year's AGM.

Rodney, our Chairman, and Claire, our Treasurer, both retired from the Committee after 3 years in their posts. Big thank you to both of them.

The new Committee was voted in unanimously.

Mollie Silver Trophy.
Mollie's family have decided to donate a trophy to be awarded annually to celebrate Mollie's association with the Society.
This year we have agreed to have a competition which will be judged at the Christmas Lunch. All members are encouraged to take part and bring along a painting on the day, new or old favourite, Members and their guests will have one vote and the trophy will be awarded.
Charity Postcards update.

Jane Bindon attended West Cornwall(Helston) Parkinson's Group last Friday 19th Oct.

She presented a cheque for £230, to Helen Price, which we raised from our 'postcard' sales at they exhibition. she also showed them a sample of our original art postcards and a short explanation of how the money was raised.

They were extremely grateful for the donation and asked Jane to thank us all for our efforts and to say the donation will be put to a very good use.
25/9/18. Print Making Workshop

Very interesting workshop led by Candia Cox.

She covered mono printing, reduction printing and lino printing.

We produced a lot of work, learning some new creative techniques.
CAS Annual Exhibition 2018

Another very successful exhibition in this our 43rd year.

More talented artwork than ever on show this year, the Society is going from strength to strength.

We have also raised funds, with our artwork raffle, for Constantine School, and a donation to a local Parkinson charity with the sale of Postcard artworks.

Mollie Silver, one of our members, has celebrated her 100th birthday this August!

We are very proud and happy to have her as one of our members.

She has been painting and creating artworks for the last 40 years. She still paints everyday in her studio and comes most Tuesdays to paint at the hall.

We celebrated her birthday on our preview evening at the exhibition with a fabulous cake and a toast from us all.

Anne demonstrated how to use Procreate on an iPad to create digital art.

Lots of fun but also showing digital art as a really creative skill capable of producing amazing artwork.

Acrylic painting with a difference!

Brilliant day, fast and furious loose acrylic work, demonstrated by Steven.

Learning not to get bogged down in detail initially, using colour to plan the work.
Lots of practical tips on composition and colour.

Workshop with Tamsin Dearing, 8/5/18, 11am.

Tamsin returned after her very good pencil drawing workshop last year.

A very enjoyable and informative pastel workshop with Tamsin this time.
A very successful and productive day.
Workshop with David Rowe 6/3/18 and 13/3/18
David came along for these 2 weeks and gave us the benefit of the very careful, skilful techniques he uses to create his beautiful and distinctive watercolours.

The first week we concentrated on preliminary sketches and planning for the finished work.

The second week David did a number of watercolour studies demonstrating the use of ink, light and watercolour mixing, showing how to make the picture 'sing'!
We all practised and with new insights we can use this to improve our techniques.

Workshop with Eve Bourrat 20/2/18

Sketch Club came to Constantine! As usual Eve brought lots of interesting speedy projects to stretch us and show us new techniques.

Workshop with Julia Rowlands. 16/1/18

Oil Pastel workshop with Julia. Fabulous and imaginative use of colour, using colour wheel and complementary colours to show how colours can bring a picture to life.

It helped us all to use colour imaginatively and how to then use in our own chosen medium.

Christmas Lunch 2017

Another very successful Christmas Lunch.

Well attended by Art Society members and their partners, with a huge spread and lots of Christmas cheer.

A very relaxed pleasant way to start the Christmas Season.

We have just painted large Nativity figures for the almost life size Village Nativity tableau.

This will be set up on the St Constantine Church car park, lit up from Tuesday 5th December

Printing Workshop with Candia and George 7/11/17

Very well attended popular workshop. Candia and George demonstrated techniques using polystyrene sheets and lino, showing us how to do simple prints from the polystyrene sheets and more complex work from the lino cuts.

We produced lots of very original work and masses of Christmas cards.
A very festive, good and enjoyable workshop.

17/10/17: Outside Drawing Workshop with Nick Penn

Initially Nick showed us his sketch books, he records his walks and trips in quick, lively spontaneous work in his sketch book.

In spite of drizzly Cornish weather stalwart members set out with Nick to a nearby footpath.
We worked hard under his guidance to try and capture the same sort of spontaneity as he does in his work.

As the day went on we all made progress and achieved some pleasing work.
We also had a go with pen brushes as well as pen and pencil work.
We barely noticed the damp weather!
19/9/17:'Pop up' extra workshop with Julia Rowlands

Beautiful warm sunny weather greeted us at Glendurgan.
Julia brought along oil pastels and showed us how to use them in a very free and colourful way to capture the lush autumn colours of Glendurgan.
Very enjoyable and different way of working.

19/9/17 Botanical Art Workshop with Sarah Jane Humphries

Very interesting and challenging workshop with Sarah Jane.

She demonstrated her techniques using gouache and coloured pencils, showing us some of her beautiful work.

We all achieved some very good results under her guidance.

Annual Exhibition 2017

Another very successful exhibition.

We had an increase in sales of framed paintings, good visitor attendance and very positive feedback from the visitors.

The quality of the work was much admired.

Outside Painting with Janet Judge 27/6/17

Great day with Janet. Initially we explored the gardens doing quick studies. Janet then demonstrated her way of working, using watercolours, showing her own very free style and fabulous colour use, very inspiring,

We then worked on our own interpretations of what we saw in the garden.
In spite of some damp weather we all managed to have a productive and inspirational day.
Fine Art Pencil Portraiture Workshop with Tamsin Dearing 16/05/17

Excellent workshop. Tamsin demonstrated lots of very clever and skilful techniques which help to produce amazing portraits.

Very enjoyable day with many new skills learnt.
Constantine Village Hall wall painting

Grateful thanks to all members who assisted Gill and Rodney on 11th April painting the village hall walls.
It looks so much better and well worth our efforts.

Also the Society Committee has agreed to contribute £1000 towards the painting of the ceiling in the hall.

We've had our first outside painting session with George.
Fabulous Spring weather, working in the valley below the hall.
Looking forward to our next session early May.
The hall is always open as usual for inside work.
Lynn Golden Pastel Workshop 14/3/17

Lynn came along and gave us an amazing demonstration of loose pastel work. Also discussing pastel card, materials and techniques.

We then worked on still life under her guidance, trying to use the same freedom and spontaneity that she had used.

A great inspiring day.
Eve Bourrat Sketching and Drawing Workshop 7/2/17

Very full, enjoyable and challenging day with Eve.

Initially warm up exercises, 2 minute still lifes, using our pencils or pens in our non dominant hand, drawing with pencil taped to a fork!

Next each of us drawing a jigsaw piece then assembling the full puzzle.

After lunch, quick portrait drawing, followed by portrait either stitched or created out of soft wire, very creative results!

Finally a tissue collage based on a photo.

Absolutely amazing amount of variety and creative work produced in one day, proving how we can all move well outside our comfort zones, and stretch our skills.

Another very enjoyable and delicious Christmas buffet, marking the end of a very active and sociable year.

Printing Workshop

Tuesday 8th November, Printing Workshop with Candia and George.
Another chance to hone our printing skills with their help and support. At the end of a very enjoyable day some very original, creative Christmas cards and labels produced.

Jane Bindon, here with her owl eye mug, in 2015, entered the Society for All Artists (SAA) 'World Record Art Challenge'. 32,000 entries, 10,009 artists, the challenge was won. The entries are on 66 panels, on show at SAA headquarters in Nottingham. All entrants were offered the opportunity to buy a mug or coaster.
New challenge closing 31st Dec 2016, 'Postcard Partners Challenge', prize of a £1000 painting holiday. Details in current SAA mag or on their website.
Rob Carter Oil Painting Workshop 25th October 2016.

Rob started with an interesting and informative talk telling us how he had evolved into the artist he is now, from art school via a framing job, abstract work, landscapes, to his latest work featuring studies on iconic toys and bathrooms!
He then went on to explain his oil techniques and colour palette.
After lunch we painted either a still life set up by Rob, or used our own source material, incorporating his techniques,

20th Sept 2016. Life Drawing Workshop with Philip Maire.

Very challenging and creative day. Philip gave excellent advice on the very difficult skill of Life Drawing.
He started with planning using stick men to visualise the skeleton, then short poses for 60 seconds, gradually building over the day to finishing with 40 minute poses.
Exhausting but very enjoyable!
Annual Exhibition 2016

The Annual Exhibition has been very successful.
Many sales and lots of compliments. Also lots of interest in joining the Society.
Happily in our 41st year still going from strength to strength.

Let's Paint Outside with Janet Judge 28/06/16

In spite of having to meet in the Church Hall due to the rain, we had a great time painting flowers from life and gardens from photos. Janet gave a very loose informative demonstration in watercolours. She then helped us as we worked and gave an insightful critique at the end.

CAS member Kathy Atkins introduced us to mixed media collage/still life, in which we all participated.
We created some very interesting, and loose artworks together.

Amy, an exciting local artist, came and did a workshop demonstrating techniques and colour mixing in oils and acrylics. Her works are original and imaginative abstracts. Very original and stimulating day.

Amazing new skill, we learnt and made a sketchbook in one day, the photos demonstrate how successful our efforts were.

Amanda Hoskin Oil Workshop

Last March Amanda Hoskin demonstrated very original and beautiful Cornish landscape painting in oils. A new medium to many of us but one that we all want to carry on using now that we have started.

Janet Judge Outside Workshop

Janet Judge came last summer and did an outside workshop in a beautiful local garden, painting en plain air, lots of loose vibrant watercolour work.
